Zoom zoom

Hey family and friends!

So, sorry about the short abrupt letter last week, I didn’t have a ER trip planned into my schedule... :p

Elder Sheppard’s ankle is still hurt super bad, but we got a car temporarily! So I guess it's all worth it ;) haha oh man... he's been on crutches all week and the doctor told him to stay on them till this Friday and we have to go back for him to check it again to make sure nothing is broken.

This week has been kinda slow due to injury... But with our car we were able to still get out and work! So that was really good. We made a list of all of our members in our area like I did in Jennings and we are trying to get with all the less active. So that's been going good. Our ward is about 30% percent active so we have quite a bit to work with!

Haha so something kinda funny is ever since I've got here in Kingwood 7 out of 10 meals we have are lasagna. Like for reals... all the Kingwood Elders say they have really never had lasagna in their time here but I show up and all of a sudden literally everyone and their dog makes lasagna. Haha it's like a never ending joke by now... we are like "Gee, I wonder what's for dinner tonight? I hope it's lasagna! We haven't had that forever!" Haha oh man... my body is SO ready for something other than cheese and red sauce... Haha but, the members are so so nice to be willing to feed us and I thank them graciously for every meal and tell them all it's the best lasagna I've ever had ;)

C* canceled his baptismal interview this week... So we aren't sure if he's going to get baptized. Prayers for him would be much appreciated. Hopefully we can keep working with him and he will choose to get baptized into this church.

This week I went on exchanges with my District Leader Elder Abbott. I lead out my area and we had a lot of fun. We had a dinner and they reminded us that it was Mardi Gras and so they loaded us up with beads and all kinds of cheap plastic collectibles :p so that was fun I guess ;)

Anyways, besides that, not much new has happened this week. I'm still amazed at how pretty it is here and how kind the people are :) I'm going to hit 6 months this week and it's gone by incredibly fast! I can't wait to serve the Lord for a year and a half more!

I love you all! Thanks for everything!

Love,
Elder Wood

Let the games begin!

Hey everyone!

So, this week is going to be really short and I'm sorry for that... But, my companion Elder Sheppard hurt his ankle really bad playing basketball so we've spent most the day at Instacare...

Anyways, for my week, it's been pretty good. Kinda slow and really cold on some days! Especially when you are biking...

We went and had lunch with Craig and he's getting excited for his baptism on the 24th! Please keep praying for him! .

Another time we ate at this place called Torchys and it’s a Mexican food place. And it's really good! They had a cool marker up on their walls to show how high the water was from Harvey.

Our mission started an Olympics and we have different events each day where we can get points for doing different missionary things. So that should be fun! But, me and Elder Sheppard might be out of the games for a bit....

Other than that, things here are going well! It's beautiful and I love the people! Being on a mission is one of the greatest experiences!!

I love you all and thank you for the support!

Love,
Elder Wood

Loving Texas!!

Hey everyone!

Another week, another email!

Porter Pass Problems
This week was good and as usual, I'm loving Texas! :)

Tuesday was MLT so we were in a trio for the day with Elder Lloyd (Pronounced "La-Loid"), we have this part in our area called Porter, and it's more like Louisiana than rich Kingwood. Now the only way to get there on bikes is through these things we call "Porter Passes". Which are pretty much small dirt trails in the middle of the woods. While we were riding through them, there was a big rain puddle in the middle and Elder Lloyd decided to try and bike through it. So we all just sat and waited... haha sure enough he got to the middle and his front bike tire sank in the mud. He got soaked and it was pretty funny.

We got C* back on date this week. He should be getting baptized on the 24th! Hopefully it goes through! Pray for him please!

We had a dinner this week and they had a little girl named A* and she's the biggest sweetheart! I don't know why but I've always been drawn to kids. During the entire hour we were there she pulled out her toys one by one and brought them to me to show me and then made a giant pile of them next to my chair. With each new toy, she would say, "Here we go!" Haha it was great.

We had our second top investigator drop us this week... But that's alright, because we are working hard and I know the Lord will bless us because of it!

It's been a rough week with investigators.... lots of drops and fell through appointments... here’s to a better week next week! :)

We were at Wendy's this week and we were with some other Elders and we lined up to get our food. The cashier asked me if we were a part of a school when I started to explain we were missionaries and then a man walked up and said that he was going to pay for all of our food. Haha the look on the cashier’s face was priceless!! She came back while we were eating and she said "I'm traumatized..." haha that was pretty funny.

Saturday was priesthood Saturday and it was raining so literally no one was outside in all of Kingwood. Right before we were about to give up I decided to bike down one more street. We came across a man who was working on some pipes in his yard and we started talking to him. Turns out, he has a best friend that’s from Arizona that's Mormon and he himself has been to our church multiple times! He knew a ton about our religion and was very open to discussing it. Which is a miracle, especially in this area. He said we could come back if we could answer why there are stars everywhere at the temple grounds in Salt Lake. I guess he noticed a bunch of stars while he was there visiting one time. I didn't even know there were stars everywhere so if someone has the answer I'm open to hear it! :)

Well, not much else happened this week... I hope all is going well back home! I love you all and I'm so grateful for your prayers and support!

Love,
Elder Wood
